Our commitments

MOMUS believes in journalism that is fact-based, transparent, participative, and solutions-oriented

Accurate, Fair and Fact-based

  • We strive to verify the accuracy of all information we report to the highest journalistic standards.
  • We provide a right of reply to affected parties before publication.
  • We transparently acknowledge and promptly correct any mistakes.
  • We protect the confidentiality of our sources when necessary.

Transparent & independent

  • We openly disclose our funding sources and report on expenses.
  • We share behind-the-scenes insights into our investigations through updates, research notes, newsletters and social media.
  • We promote self-reflection and constructive criticism internally and with our audience.
  • We disclose all collaborations with external organizations, networks and freelancers.
  • We maintain full editorial independence in choosing research topics and producing content for our own platform and media partners.
  • We are committed to exploring the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence tools to support our investigative journalism, while ensuring that all AI-assisted work is carefully reviewed by human editors, is clearly labeled as such and adheres to our stringent editorial standards.

Participation & inclusion

  • We actively engage our audience and the communities we serve through in-person meetups, digital tools and participatory investigations.
  • We aim to include a range of diverse voices in our reporting, also by expanding our network to include freelancers of different social, economic, educational, ethnic and national backgrounds.
  • We commit to avoiding discrimination of any form, both in our reporting and within our organization or through our collaborations.

Ethical

  • We believe journalists can contribute to social justice.
  • While upholding the highest journalistic standards, we are transparent about our organizational and individual views.
  • We focus on public interest issues like inequality, housing, energy- and climate crisis to contribute to a fair democratic society.
  • We hold power to account through investigations while also investigating alternatives and solutions.

Editorial policy

  • For the publication of long-reads, we collaborate with media partners that maintain an independent editorial board.
  • All self-published content – podcasts, videos, research updates, and research notes – undergoes a rigorous two-step internal review process at Momus. First, the content is reviewed by a Momus team member who is directly involved in the relevant investigative team. This ensures that the content aligns with the investigation’s objectives and meets Momus’s journalistic standards. Subsequently, the content is reviewed by a Momus team member who operates outside of the specific investigative team. This additional layer of scrutiny provides an objective assessment of the content’s adherence to Momus’ editorial guidelines and ethical principles.
